Despite all the unfortunate associations this building has, it’s really a cool design. I mean, rooftop gardens on the bridge section? Amazing. They’re planned to be built in Seoul, but MVRDV, the Dutch architect behind the design, has said it might change it in light of criticism over said unfortunate associations.

A swing inside a billboard. I’d like to have a go.

How birds see the Chrysler Building. Maybe when they built it they were planning on making flying cars.

The Flatiron Building. You’ve got to hand it to Broadway, without that street Manhattan could be very boring indeed. [my flickr]

This is a beautiful glass tea house. I’m going to build one of these in my garden.

Saw an exhibition of Ezra Stoller’s architectural photos at the Yossi Milo gallery today. The pictures of the TWA terminal at Idlewild airport (since renamed JFK) gave a sense of the excitement of early jet flight, emphasized here by the pairing of the terminal and the a plane. Inside, the terminal building was beautifully sparse, a luxury I assume was possible because few people could afford to fly and security restrictions did not require the space to be divided.
Anyway, if you have the chance, pop along. Otherwise an archive of Stoller’s photos can be found here.

1925 imagines 1950. It’s only now some of these ideas are starting to catch on. Perhaps not the underground roads but the integrated building blocks are similar to a lot of BIG’s ideas.
