This Brooklyn web developer’s door opens when he checks in to his apartment on Foursquare. On New Year’s Eve they’re having an open-house party for anyone on Foursquare (and their friends, I guess).

The awesomely named Institute for the Future has released a Rockerfeller Foundation-funded report on the good and bad that could come from smart cities.
At issue: Will cities develop into ‘smart’ and ‘dumb’ neighborhoods? The worry is that far from enabling marginalized communities, technology will see resources funnelled to rich areas as poor ones are left to decay.
